Baby Acne

Baby acne is actually quite common in infants. In many cases during the final moments of pregnancy, the mothers hormones can cross the placenta and into the child. This can stimulate the oil glands in the child's skin resulting in the eventual rise of baby acne.

Occasionally baby acne can be present at birth, but outbreaks are more common at the age of 3 - 4 weeks. Baby acne is most common on the cheeks, but can also occur on the forehead and chin. Whiteheads can sometimes occur, although red bumps as seen in the photo to the right, are more common.

In most cases acne products do not help with baby acne. The best treatment is to gently clean the child's skin with water at least once a day, or you can use a mild baby soap. In some cases oils and lotions can actually aggravate the condition.

If regular gentle washing does not help within 6 months we recommend seeing your pediatrician who may prescribe a mild medication to help. We do not recommend using acne products on young children without first consulting a doctor.

My Acne Solutions does not recommend any products for the treatment of Baby Acne.

Regular washing with water, or mild baby soap should help, if it does not, consult with your physician.
